Oregon Engagement Photography

June 29th 2008

Natalie and Nick met and began dating in High school.  Eight years later, on Valentines Day, Nick proposed and now the boyfriend and girlfriend are destined to be husband and wife!  What a great couple!  I can’t wait for the wedding photography!

We got together in the smeltering heat (well to me anyway) and spent some time on Nataile and Nick’s engagement photographs.  Nick even tried his hand as the photographer while directing Natalie as the model.  Hey Nick, you could be the next big Oregon wedding photographer!

Eugene Oregon Wedding Photography

June 21st 2008

Here’s some shots from Mark and Virginia’s Eugene, Oregon wedding. It was a awesome day for an outdoor wedding in Oregon, and everyone enjoyed the evening. The wedding ceremony and reception were held at the family’s home and was a great setting for some nice wedding images. The food, the decorations, the family, and the friends were all wonderful. And as you can see, Mark and Virginia make a great couple!

Greening Oregon Wedding Photography

June 15th 2008

I took a drive out to Sherman County a couple weeks ago to take a look at the Vestas wind turbines that were being erected. These machines are amazingly huge and pretty fun to watch (well, if you’re a bit of a geek like me). The thought about these towers just standing there making power by spinning in the wind was pretty cool. Green power really seems to fit in Oregon.

Feeling inspired by the wind turbines, I began to think about ways that I could reduce my impact on the environment through my actions as a wedding photographer. I certainly won’t single handedly save the planet but every little bit helps and if we all do our part, I think we will start to see a difference.

I will start by doing everything I can to reduce my paper use. I will do everything I can to email things like invoices, contracts, price lists, marketing materials, etc. Some things like wedding contracts still need to be signed but as much as possible, I will try to scan and email those items.

With gasoline prices the way they are, reducing the number of trips I take in my car will not only reduce my impact on the environment but it will also significantly reduce my expenses as well.

Having switched to digital wedding photography, I feel that I have reduced my impact by eliminating the consumables associated with film photography. Some of my wedding packages still include proof books and I don’t think that I will ever move completely away from offering those but there always is the option of having digital proofs of the wedding delivered on CDROM instead of hard copies.

Beyond my wedding photography, I will also take a hard look at my personal decisions to see where I can reduce. Things like reducing the use of air conditioning, riding the MAX more often, buying local whenever possible, and leaving the car parked more can really help reduce my impacts to the environment.

Rainy Oregon Wedding Photography

Rainy Oregon Wedding

Outdoor wedding photography can always be risky but outdoor Oregon wedding photography can be downright scary!  I’ve done wedding photography in Oregon during 100-degree weather and two weeks later photographed a wedding in a complete downpour.  The secret as a photographer is to always be prepared.  I always have a couple large golf umbrellas in my car in case it either rains or incase they’re needed for shade.

The couple should have a “Plan B” in case the weather doesn’t cooperate.  Also, we should remember that we do live in Oregon (which I LOVE) so we need to understand that weather can be unpredictable and we need to accept it and if it doesn’t turn out the way we dreamed it would, we need to smile, laugh, and make the best of it.  After all, it’s still one of the best days of your life!
